Whenever I go to book accommodations, one of the main things I keep in mind is how much the stay can change the feel of the entire trip. Sometimes, it’s not even a matter of choosing the right hotel or resort; it’s about choosing the right stay within the resort itself, which is something I ran into when looking at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort accommodations.
At Mount Princeton, you’re not booking a cookie-cutter hotel where every room is essentially interchangeable. Instead, you have a wide array of rooms, suites, and cabins, each suited for a different kind of traveler and trip. There are the traditional, hotel-style rooms. But you’ll also find spacious suites with full kitchens and mountain cabins that sleep up to 10 people!
So the challenge isn’t really deciding where to stay — it’s figuring out how to stay for the best trip!

I’ve been to Mount Princeton 4 times now, and not only stayed in a few different rooms and suites, but was also given the opportunity to tour several of the rooms, suites, and cabins to see how the different accommodations compared.
And now I’m passing that knowledge on to you! Whether you’re planning a couples’ getaway, a girls’ trip, a family vacation, or a big friend-group get-together, this guide will help you determine where to stay at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort!

About Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort

If you’re looking for a Colorado hot springs resort, I really don’t think you can go wrong with Mount Princeton. I originally discovered this beautiful oasis near Buena Vista while on a Colorado road trip with a friend, and I have happily returned multiple times since.
Located in Nathrop, Colorado, Mount Princeton is a 3-star resort nestled within the Collegiate Peaks. As you can probably imagine, the views are immaculate from every angle! But in addition to the gorgeous mountain setting, Mount Princeton really shines with its all-natural, sulfur-free hot springs. Guests can enjoy these hot springs in various ways, from “traditional” swimming pools (complete with waterslides) to cascading Japanese-style pools and even natural creekside hot springs.
And while you can visit many of these hot springs with just a day pass, staying overnight comes with a lot of perks–and more time to experience the full resort at your own pace.

What’s Included with a Stay at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort?

When you book a stay at Mount Princeton, you’re not just paying for a room or suite–you’re paying for a whole experience. Overnight guests receive access to all the hot springs areas, including the Relaxation Pool and spa area, which aren’t included with a standard day pass. That access starts the day of check-in and goes through the end of the day you check out, so even a one-night stay will get you two full days at the hot springs! You also get early access to the Upper Pools, giving you first pick of all the seating and cabanas and no-wait access to the waterslides during the summer.
But that’s just the beginning. Each overnight stay includes complimentary seasonal rentals, like mountain and fat tire bikes, cross-country skis, and snowshoes. Add in access to daily fitness classes and 10% off spa treatments, and they really pack in the perks!

So when you start comparing Mount Princeton Hot Springs lodging to a more traditional hotel near Buena Vista, don’t forget to factor in all these extra perks. Depending on the season and your itinerary, you might end up replacing other paid activities with the unlimited hot springs access, fitness classes, and complimentary rentals.
Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort Accommodations Compared

As I mentioned, the Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort accommodations range widely from traditional hotel-style rooms to spacious suites and cabins big enough for a multi-generational trip.

A Closer Look at the Creekside Suites
The Mount Princeton Hot Springs Creekside Suites are among my favorite stays on the property, thanks to the spacious accommodations and in-suite amenities.
King Creekside Suites: Best for a Couples’ Getaway

If you’re looking for a cozy couples’ getaway, the King Creekside Suites are definitely at the top of my recommendation list.
The suites include a seating area with a TV, a small full kitchen, a two-sided fireplace, a comfy king bed, and a deluxe bathroom that feels more elevated than you’d expect from a 3-star resort. There’s also a built-in workstation, a second TV in the main bedroom, and a private patio or balcony facing the creek with room for two.

Between the cozy fireplace, the intimate outdoor space, and the ability to cook privately within the suite, this just sings couples’ getaway to me! It’s much more along the lines of an elevated mountain-retreat than a traditional hotel room.
Two-Queen Creekside Suites: Best for Families with Older Kids & Friend Getaways

Now, if you’re bringing along some older kids or a small group of friends for the ride, I like the Queen Creekside Suites.
These suites are great for up to 4 people, with two queen beds, a full kitchen (with bar seating), roomy bathrooms (with private shower/toilet areas and a separate vanity), and a nice balcony or patio overlooking the creek.

They’re good for a longer stay because the full kitchen makes it easy to cook some meals rather than eat every meal at the resort. Plus, the large bathrooms and seating areas make it easy for everyone to spread out just a bit without feeling too cramped. For a family stay, I do feel like it’s best for older kids who won’t be running around all over but appreciate the extra room to get ready, sprawl on the couch, etc.
My recommendation: Choose a Creekside suite if you’re staying for a few days, need space to get ready, and want the flexibility to cook some meals.
Cliffside and Hillside Rooms: Best for a Hot Springs-Focused Girls’ Getaway

Out of all the Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort Rooms, the Cliffside and Hillside rooms just scream “girls trip” to me! It could be because this is where I stayed on my first girls’ trip here. But I think it’s more than that.
The Cliffside and Hillside Rooms are more along the lines of a traditional hotel-room setup, with a king or two queen beds, a kitchenette (microwave, coffee maker, mini-fridge), and a small bathroom. There’s still plenty of room to spread out in the main bedroom, but the seating area is just a table and two chairs, and the bathroom is all one room.
However, there’s still plenty to love, with comfy beds, a big TV, and my personal favorite, the patio.

Through sliding doors, you’ll be able to access a shared patio overlooking the resort, and the views from here are incredible! I highly recommend grabbing your favorite bevy and sitting out here to enjoy the sunset at least once while you’re here. The sunrises are also top-notch. Each room has access to a 4-person table and Adirondack chairs where you can hang out with a view of the whole resort and the mountains in the distance.

So if your ideal resort stay involves spending all day at the hot springs, booking a spa treatment, grabbing dinner at the on-site steakhouse, and chilling with your friends on the patio as the sun sets over the mountains, I’d seriously consider a Cliffside or Hillside room.
Couples or family groups who plan to spend most of their trip enjoying the resort may also prefer these simpler rooms over a larger suite.
My recommendation: Choose a Cliffside or Hillside room for a resort-focused getaway, where the hot springs and mountain views are the main priority.
A Closer Look at the Cabins

If you plan to bring along a whole crew, why not make it a Colorado cabin getaway? The Mount Princeton Hot Springs cabins are perfect for groups of 4-10 people, whether it’s a multi-generational trip or a friend-filled getaway. And with locations all over the resort, you can choose whether you want to prioritize views or quick access to your favorite hot springs.
Full Cabins: Best for Families and Small Groups

The full cabins comfortably fit groups of 4 to 8 people, making them great for families and small groups of friends. The big perk here is a shared home base where everyone can hang out between hot springs visits and at the end of a long day, instead of separating your group between rooms across the resort.
Personally, that really changes the whole dynamic of the trip.
Of course, there are other perks to these cabins, including a big front porch, large seating areas, full kitchens, and cozy mountain cabin vibes. I particularly like their old-timey wood-stove fireplace aesthetic (don’t worry, they’re electric, haha). And you can even bring your pet along for the fun!

My recommendation: Book a Full Cabin if you’re traveling with a medium-sized family or friend group and want a shared space that keeps it feeling like a group getaway.
Large Cabins: Best for Large and Multigenerational Groups

If you’re bringing 6 to 10 people, don’t worry–the Mount Prince Hot Springs Resort cabins come in all sizes! Quite frankly, they offer some of the best group lodging near Buena Vista, especially with all the resort perks!
The large cabins can comfortably hold a large or multigenerational family, or even a big friend group. Once again, you get the benefit of a home base for everyone, rather than splitting into separate hotel rooms. This also saves a ton of money over individual rooms. Plus, you have more privacy since you get the whole place to yourself. So it’s okay to stay up late chatting or playing games without waking up the guests in the next room over.

Now, a cabin won’t automatically be the least expensive option for every trip, but having your whole group under one room may be more valuable, depending on your group size and travel style.
Like the full cabins, the large cabins are fully equipped for a group: full kitchen, fireplace, large front porch, big central seating area, and a dining room table!
My recommendation: Choose a large cabin for big groups who want value spending time together and want a Colorado mountain cabin experience without losing resort amenities.

Is Staying at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort Worth It?

In my opinion… 100%. Again, I have been to this resort 4 times since 2023, and I enjoy my stay every single time. Obviously, Colorado has many different hot springs getaways to choose from. But between the expansive resort amenities, the many accommodation options, and the views, this one really stands out.
As far as accommodations go, there is obviously room for some crossover. A friend group may love the full kitchen in the two-queen Creekside Suite, while a couple who plans to spend the entire day at the hot springs then dine at the steakhouse may prefer a Cliffside Room. Ultimately, the best choice for you depends on how you plan to experience the resort.
And really, the biggest perk of staying overnight isn’t just the proximity to the hot springs. It’s the early Upper Pool entry, full access to every hot spring, the ability to return to your cabin whenever you want, and the ease with which you can explore the surrounding areas, especially with complimentary gear rentals.
For me, that’s what makes staying here different from just visiting any old Colorado hot spring for the day. The resort really becomes the destination, and it’s easy to customize your whole stay to your personal preference.
